Transcript:

Hello everyone, I’m Ronn Stern, and today on Brush of Magic, we dive into a one-hour painting of the iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader; time lapsed into 60 seconds.

Darth Vader’s masterpiece helmet, originally designed by artist Ralph McQuarrie, is composed of several different geometric shapes. If you break the shapes down into oval and round forms and see where the sharp and hard edges of the triangular shapes contrast the softness of the round, you can begin to get a firm grip on painting Darth’s helmet. Spend time looking at photos or models of Darth Vader and just look for the shapes. Studying things upside down often helps your brain see objects for what they are instead of what you think they are.

Remember, 10 minutes of painting a day, every day, is the best thing you can do to propel your art. Subscribe to learn more on how to paint your favorite characters.
